Koingo Software, a Canadian developer that aims to “bring serenity to the chaotic nightmare of technological confusion in the busy, modern, world,” came up with a presentation tool that is great for creating interactive tutorials, engaging presentations, adventure games, storybooks, and so on. That presentation tool’s name is Project Canvas.

Project Canvas is available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and for Apple’s Mac OS X. Support is provided for any Windows edition from Windows XP onward and for any OS X edition from Lion onward. The steps you must go through to install Project Canvas on a Windows PC are presented in the Quick Look video that accompanies this article.

A “Welcome to Project Canvas” prompt will show up the first time you run the application. It explains that Project Canvas is a versatile presentation tool that can be used to create all sorts of things, including tutorials, multimedia presentations, and adventure games. It also explains that projects, a.k.a. stacks, are comprised of a set of cards and that each card has an image, mask, and buttons. The card image is the visual representation of the card. The card mask is hidden behind the card image and works directly within the buttons. And the card buttons perform various actions when clicked upon.

You have 15 days at your disposal to use Project Canvas for free, uncover everything that it can do, and decide whether you want to purchase a license or not. After this 15-day trial period, some features in the Project Canvas application may become disabled.

Project Canvas isn’t just a properly good alternative to PowerPoint, it far surpasses Microsoft’s presentation tool. It especially shines when used on a Mac.

Pros

Project Canvas is available for Windows and Mac OS X. Installing Project Canvas on a Windows PC is an effortless task. The “Welcome” prompt presents useful information about using Project Canvas; a detailed Manual is available on Project Canvas’ official webpage. Project Canvas is a versatile presentation tool that can be used to create tutorials, multimedia presentations, and even adventure games.

Cons

Trial limitations: 15-day trial; some features may become disabled once the trial period expires.
